Technical information

Since we now have some room for organizing, I am starting to put techie type material in the blue magazine holder titled "Technical Info Hints and Tips."  There are print outs of miscellaneous. info that I put in there the first day we rearranged.
The newest folder is all of the Wireless Server information.  As I add things, I will try and remember to add them to the blog.  Everyone seems to want info on paper, so we'll see if this works.

  1. Using the floating stations

We have been assigned the numbers 1701 and 1702 for our floating stations.
1701 should be used at the circulation desk, 1702 at the "cataloging" computer.

To use the floating stations, open anzio. (This may seem confusing, but it isn't) If you are already working in dynix, anzio has been opened already for the work station you are using. So, anzio needs to be opened AGAIN for the floating station. Once you have the screen up, type in the station number. Now you will be at the manual sign in screen.

    The password info is

After signing in, it is just like using any workstation. Be careful NOT to use this station for regular circulation duties, because it does not collect statistical circulation information.
One way to keep straight which is which, is to put a post it note attached to the monitor UNDER the floating station. Also, the port number will be different, so that is another way to tell. So, play with it, and put any relevant notes about your experience here.

  2. Having the floating station open at the circ. desk computer is handy for when staff needs to enter a new patron plus need to checkout other patrons. With the floating station open one can start to enter a new patron but cantoggle to the
circulation station to quickly check out someone.
Particularly so if the cataloging workstation is being used. But as Denisr pointed out BE SURE to be in the correct station when checking people out. JB

My E-mail response to the consumer with the following question:
"Is it possible to register for a library card online. I am having difficulty getting into the library when open due to my crazy work schedule."
Then following is my response via E-mail - a face-to-face response may be a bit different. Along with the library card form going in the mail so did a book mark with our hours. For this particular patron this is the best we can do.

At this time it is not possible - the best I can do is drop a form in the mail for you but you would still need to stop in because we require a proof of I.D. to issue a library card. If your driver's license does not have your current address on it a piece of mail or a bill addressed to the Blue Spruce Lane address can be used as proof that you live there. I will put it in the mail on Saturday. Thank you in advance for signing up for a library card.

Also, I could have suggested going to another library in SCLS that have more evening hours or Sunday hours but reminding her that correct I.D. is extremely important and she would not get her card immediately because the application form would need to be sent back here and then a card would be issued and could be mailed to her. What it comes down to is no one defined answer necessarily fits all situations.
